This week I sat on the couch, turned on the mic, and tried to process the unthinkable. Conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University. He was shot in front of a crowd of 3,000 people while doing what he did best, speaking to a room full of young Americans. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested after his own father recognized him in photos and pushed him to turn himself in.I don’t agree with everything Charlie Kirk ever said. Most of us didn’t. But what happened this week was not politics, it was a human being murdered in broad daylight for having an opinion. That should scare every single one of us.I talk about how social media forced all of us to watch this tragedy unfold in real time, how the country immediately split into categories of support, denial, or celebration, and why celebrating a man’s death is one of the lowest things you can do. I had to block a dozen people from my feed this week because they were cheering it on. It’s disgusting.We also talk about the dangerous “what ifs” of gun control and the government’s already insane overreach.
